Day 1: The first night

I wake up to the ship shuddering softly—it's 6 AM, still dark outside, but I can see lights on the horizon. We’re entering the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. It’s a bit early to get up, but the cool morning air keeps me alert. I slept well, barely noticing we were on a ship, except for the occasional gentle sway.

I decide to begin my planned daily routine:

  • 7 AM: 30 minutes on the stepper in the gym
  • 8 AM: A light breakfast of fruits, yogurt, and a slice of salmon
  • 8:30 AM: Catching up on the news
  • All goals met! Now that we’re in Santa Cruz, we’re ready to go ashore and explore the town.

Tenerife and Gran Canaria share a friendly rivalry. As the two largest islands in the Canary archipelago, they hold similar significance for Spain, though Tenerife is often seen as second to Gran Canaria. Our initial impression of Santa Cruz is that it feels a bit more modern than Las Palmas, though we’ve only seen a small part of each city so far.

In the afternoon, we relax on the sun deck, doing our best to resist the tempting pull of the ice cream parlor, bars, and restaurants—all enticing us to indulge in treats we probably shouldn’t. At 7 PM, we set sail from the harbor, bound for Cape Verde, with two days of open ocean ahead of us. The vastness of the sea stretches out before us, and the adventure continues.
